Indianapolis temperatures go above average today for the first time since last Friday. No good Mother Nature deed goes unpunished, however, and there is a slight risk of severe weather late this afternoon and tonight. The focus is a front. A warm slicing through the Hoosier mid-section could be a firing line for severe thunderstorms today, Surface winds will come together near the front, and a upper level wind will provide another twist.
Showers could start popping after lunch, with the biggest threat from thunder and such coming this evening. The low pressure system eventually drags a cold front through late tonight, shutting down the show, and knocking us back to normal temperatures Thursday. The system starts lifting back towards us Friday, and the timing’s terrible for the weekend. Good chances of showers, and maybe some thunder, from Friday afternoon through Saturday. Seems like the Humane Society’s “Mutt Strutt” always smells like wet dog. It is scheduled for Saturday.
If you’re taking Fifi for a quieter, private Sunday stroll, I think you’ll roll dry. But it’ll still be cool. In fact, today will be the warmest day for the rest of the month. Any sign of above average temps for more than a day or two is now pushed back to the second half of next week.
The heat *does* hold out west today. Denver set a record with 88 yesterday, and should be in the mid 80s today. Temperatures may reach into the 90s in portions of the Great Plains while parts of west Texas may top 100 degrees on Wednesday. The northern and central Plains will cool down to near normal temperatures on Thursday as a cold front pushes south from Canada. (That’s the front that swings through our state tonight.) The southern Plains and Southwest will remain above average for at least the next couple of days.’
