The wicked wind of April is back today, but it will be tamed. Gusts up to around 25mph are expected. The peak gust in Indy yesterday was 44mph. Today will be the fourth consecutive day of below normal temperatures in Indianapolis. We haven’t seen that since the first half of February. We will get *closer* to normal, however, with highs above 60 for the first time since last Friday.
An upper level wave brings a slight shower chance to southwest Indiana later this afternoon around Evansville. For central Indiana there’s still a good chance of rain and maybe thunder Wednesday, but it appears to be concentrated in the late afternoon through evening and overnight. Fronts meandering around the area mean I’ve got to put chances of precipitation now in the forecast from Thursday through Sunday.
Don’t panic, though. For example: Thursday’s chances are probably limited to early morning with a departing cold front, and late evening as the front moves back north. Most of the day will be dry.
And don’t be surprised if the weekend details change. For the moment though, especially Saturday, rain chances. But no snow!
Speaking of that stuff, the Spring Nor’easter is winding down today and moving north into Canada, leaving behind as much as two feet of snow, and thousands of power outages.
More than six inches fell in western New York and west-central Pennsylvania. Another 2 to 4 inches accummulated early this morning in southwestern New York and Pennsylvania`s Laurel Highlands. Gusty winds snapped branches and power lines.
The two feet (!) of snow at Laurel Summit PA led the Pennsylvania Turnpike to reduce speed limits over the summit to 45 mph.
Further south, and farther down from the mountains, drought-denting rain fell. Boston’s Logan Airport measured 2.31 inches. Central Park in NYC got 2.76 inches.
To the west, warm temperatures have accelerated the snow melt in the Pacific Northwest. With more rain in this week’s forecast, Flood Watches have been posted for portions of northern Idaho and northwest Montana through Friday afternoon.
