A Wind Advisory remains in place for Indianapolis today until 6pm. The peak wind gust in Indy on Sunday was 41mph, and we could get up around 45mph again today. The morning will start with a period of steady rain. The best timing for rain: early morning. Winds will shift from the southwest to the west by this afternoon and there will be some sunshine.
Timing IS everything, especially this time of year. For example, this year’s Tax Day deadline is tomorrow, April 17th. That’s good timing for procrastinators. And a cold front is moving through Indiana this morning. That’s good timing to avoid severe weather.
Perhaps the atmosphere is simply exhausted. It produced reports of 122 tornadoes Saturday, according to the Storm Prediction Center. No reports Sunday. There is a slight risk of severe weather today to the east of us, from eastern Ohio into West Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York. It could be bumpy tomorrow in the Carolinas and Georgia. Otherwise, should be a fairly quiet work week at the warning desk. (We hope.)
Monday morning’s rain follows a nice 1.20 soaker on Saturday. Two of the biggest rain days this month have come on weekend days, clearly a weather deduction you’ll want to note in Turbo Tax. The Indianapolis total going into Monday morning was a little ahead of normal for the month and year.
Let me bat a little weekend clean-up, as it were. The Indians made their “60 degree guarantee” Friday night, but couldn’t make it through the Saturday game with Toledo, due to rain. Some “Mud” Hens! A Sunday double-header hit the spot.
More weekend follow-up: the high hit 78 in Indianapolis Sunday. That was the warmest day since April 3rd, when Indianapolis hit 84. That’s the ONLY time this month we’ve been 80+. We did that SEVEN times in March. It’s also worth noting that the average overall temp for April so far is 54.8. That’s still above average for April, but below last month’s 56.6. Maybe I should stop comparing temperatures to March 2012. It’s too taxing.
