It’s weather deja vu all over again. For the second time in a week Indiana faces the prospect of January showers and thunderstorms, and once again they will arrive in the overnight and early morning hours. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the southern half of the state under a slight risk for severe weather. Big winds are probably the biggest threat. The most likely time for the storms will be between midnight and morning drive Monday morning.
Before all that happens, warm air will move in, and Indy high temperatures today will go above freezing for the first time since those aforementioned storms last Tuesday. Highs Sunday across the state will range from 41 in South Bend to 56 in Evansville. The work week will feature above normal high temperatures. The long range 8-14 day outlook points toward temperatures and precipitation being slightly above average in Indiana. And no, I don’t have a Super Bowl forecast yet, other than my guess that it’ll be a little chilly riding that zip line. I’ll leave risky predictions to Rob Lowe.
Several folks on Facebook and Twitter have been commenting on the swings in temperatures lately, but the ride could be a lot bumpier. On January 12, 1916 the Indy temp went from a low of 10 degrees to a high of 68! That’s a ride that rivals the zip line.
INDY ALMANAC:
The average high today is 36 and the average low is 20. The record high is 64, and the record low is -17. Sunrise today is 8:01 and sunset is 5:52. That’s two minutes more of daylight than yesterday.
