Here’s a map with the expected snow totals by Tuesday midday, as Michiana gets whipped by the first big snow storm of the 2011-2012 season. To make matters worse, the winds will gust up to 40 mph. Final snowfall amounts will be quite varied across the region due to the nature of lake effect snow. Areas farther from the lake should see highly varied amounts of between 3 to 7 inches. Snow totals of more than 5 inches are expected across the warned areas, including South Bend. Areas that remain in the heaviest snow bands for the longest duration…most likely across parts of eastern berrien and western cass counties in michigan… could receive upwards of 15 inches of snow. Snowfall rates near the lake may reach up to two Inches per hour at times monday afternoon and monday night.
