Tuesday Indiana Storm Recap

April 20, 2011

storm-reports-cropped

Two waves of severe weather moved through Indiana Tuesday. Indy’s one-day precipitation total was 3.06 inches, and significant river flooding remains a threat south of I-70, especially since big rain is possible again Friday.

No injuries were reported, but the storm blew down power lines, and the crab apple tree outside of my Studio B window! Two semis were toppled by the wind on I-65 near the Boone/Clinton county line. Reported wind gusts were as high as 60mph. The storm flooded intersections in downtown Bloomington.

Several damage reports around Crawfordsville. The Weather Service reported the Trinity Mission Facility Garage and Shed was destroyed, and a roof was blown off a house on Russell Street.

Earlier in the day in Greenfield, a lightning strike started a fire at the Hancock County Public Library just as officials were gathering to discuss an earthquake preparedness plan.

Because of the heavy rain, high water stalled cars on North Meridian Street near Westfield Boulevard, preventing other traffic from going through.

Overall there were 32 reports of tornadoes in 6 states from Oklahoma to Ohio, but none in Indiana.

Here are some more National Weather Service reports from the Indianapolis office:
