Indianapolis will host the Super Bowl XLV champion Green Bay Packers in Lucas Oil Stadium on Friday, August 26 at 8:00 p.m. on CBS. It is the third of four pre-season encounters the Colts will have before 2011 regular season play.
(I was just at Lambeau last week, admiring the weather, as the attached photo shows.)
In addition to hosting Green Bay, Indianapolis opens the pre-season on the weekend of August 11-15 by visiting the St. Louis Rams. The Colts will host Washington on the weekend prior to meeting Green Bay. Indianapolis concludes the pre-season by visiting Cincinnati on the weekend of September 1-3.
The Colts and Packers met during the 2010 pre-season in Lambeau Field. Green Bay will be making its first pre-season appearance in Indianapolis since 1996. The teams last met in league play in Indianapolis during the 2004 season. The Colts and Bengals have met 19 times during pre-season play, and this marks the 10th time in 11 years the clubs will battle on the final weekend before the regular season. Indianapolis and Washington met in the 2008 Hall-of-Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. The pre-season rivalry between the clubs spans 27 games after originating in 1953. The Colts and Rams have met but once in pre-season action, a nationally-televised contest to open the 2006 schedule.
