Brickyard Weekend Weather

July 21, 2010

I’m Indiana’s Weatherman, but Brian Neudorff is the NASCAR Weatherman. He’s not affiliated with NASCAR, but he IS a huge fan who happens to be a meteorologist. He’s the morning weather dude for the CBS affiliate WROC-TV in Rochester, NY. I worked with him back when he interned in Indy. He’s offered to provide you his take on Brickyard Weekend Weather. Thanks, Brian!

FORECAST DISCUSSION Saturday 9:40 am EDT:

The heat and steam continue to be a headline for Saturday, another Heat Advisory will be in affect from noon today until 8pm tonight. Highs will be in the low 90s but it will feel like 100-105. This is dangerous heat so please use common sense if you have to be out.

  • Stay hydrated by drinking lots of fluids, water and non sugary drinks like Gatorade are the best.
  • Wear light loose fitting clothing.
  • Minimize exposure to direct sunlight.
  • Use sunscreen.
  • Don’t over exert yourself.

Relief will come later on tonight as a cold front but this front will produce showers and storms later this evening and tonight out ahead of this front. Some of these storms could potentially be severe with gusty winds and possible hail as well as torrential rain. It appears the timing of these storms is sometime after 5pm. This could be an issue for Nationwide qualifying and race over at O’Rielly Raceway Park.

There’s still some disagreement with the forecast for Sunday. The mentioned cold front from above will be moving through Indiana from the north to the south early Sunday morning. Showers and storms are still possible through the morning and possibly up to midday. I feel like once we get past noon we are fine and free from rain and ever the high heat and humidity of the past couple of days. The only real delay I could see would be a few showers not clearing out until noon and that could slightly delay the start of the race but as of now I still feel good that the start of the Brickyard 400 is on time and we have fair weather for the race.
