Illinois tornado video

Several tornadoes moved through central Illinois Saturday night causing major damage. The first tornado was spotted around 9:30 p.m. Indiana time, near Elmwood, a little town west of Peoria in central Illinois. “National Weather Service meteorologists and storm spotters were tracking a large and extremely dangerous wedge tornado,” the agency said. Here are some pics from Elmwood. Two of those tornadoes touched down in Elmwood within four minutes, creating what witnesses on the scene afterward called a war zone. A 30-foot hole was ripped in the roof of the Palace Theatre there, and a number of other downtown businesses were badly damaged.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a tornado emergency for the Peoria metro area. The tornado was spotted four miles northwest of the Peoria airport.

Later, two tornadoes produced extensive damage in Streator and Dwight, IL, northwest of Peoria. In Streator people were trapped in homes and heavy damage was reported as several homes were leveled. In Dwight, a tornado produced heavy damage to the south part of the town.

Supercells marched into northern Indiana, and did some damage. Police report about a 4 mile damage path across southern Miami county, where they found twisted trees, barns, & homes damaged. One home was reported as destroyed.

Storm spotters in White, Carroll, and Cass county all filed tornado reports. The storm may have flipped a trailer in Cass County.
