Maybe I Hate My Blackberry

March 4, 2010

Paul & His Love In Happier Days

Maybe I don’t hate my BlackBerry, but I think I’m All Out Of Love. Too many times when you can’t upload a picture to Facebook. Very few times when I can even use the Facebook “app” that sits there on my teeny tiny desktop. The notifications on that stopped working months ago.  I Google my problem and see that it’s widespread and, apparently, impossible to fix.

Then there’s that stupid “dit dit dit” interference that screws me sometimes when I’m around microphones or speakers.

And don’t get me started on TweetDeck.  They don’t even bother to make a BB app for that.

The only thing that always works well is UberBerry.  But I’m sure there’s an app for that on other platforms.  So if you haven’t switched to Android yet–or are not drinking the Apple Kool Aid already–why do you stay with the Berry?  Email?  I can do that from Gmail with any old smart phone.  You like having “real” keys to push?

I will close with News You Can Use.  In discussing all this earlier on the Smiley Show, a listener offered one way to speed up your Berry.  From the Home Screen press and hold “alt.”  Then hit LG LG on the keyboard.  That will populate a daily event log.  Hit the key just left of the thumb wheel and you can clear the contents.  We’ll see.

I had lunch with a friend yesterday and we discussed nearly the same topic. He mentioned his company makes him use a Blackberry because any email sent or received using it can be tracked by the company. He does insurance, financial planning etc so they need to have a record of every email to cover their behinds. Im not sure why this wouldnt be capable with other devices but thats the word around town.

Chris: Do I even NEED a “special” plan? B’berry OR I Phone? What’s an option similar to Palm Pre?

What service do you use? If you are on Verizon or Sprint, get a Palm Pre. I have one and I LOVE it. They have a great Facebook and Twitter apps. The Twitter app especially is great.

Ok…but will that delete anything important?

Can’t promise that it won’t. But I did it and so far, so ok.

Paul,
My company recently made the switch from BlackBerry Curves to iPhones. Hesitant at first, but after using it for a month I couldn’t be happier. Not only do my social networking apps work much smoother (and easier to navigate) I can also seamlessly merge all of my email accounts into one interface and still see what account they’re tied to. I know I sound like I’m drinking the Apple Kool-Aid, but I’m a convert. (And if I get you to join the Apple club, they’ll let me keep my soul.)
