I’m excited to report that the timing and scoring division of Paul Poteet, Inc. says I ran 20 miles this week. (Not all at once.) That’s the biggest weekly number since Spring. My running had fallen off this summer, in part because of the back to back loss of my Mom and Dad at the beginning and end of July. I lost some free time, and frankly, the energy and will to “just do it” for awhile in August.

But my recent laziness certainly can’t be blamed on Mom and Dad, who are part of my motivation. After lymphoma knocked her off her feet, my Mom would often talk to me about the long walks she used to take with Dad once he’d retired. I think she missed that the most. And Dad himself, until his last few years, simply never stopped moving. When people talk about my work schedule, or all the things I’m involved with, I always smile to myself and think about the Other Poteet I grew up with, who still makes me look like a wannabe.
I’m running again, but it’s mathematically a bit too late to go for another full marathon this fall. But I will be going 13.1, Lord Willing, in the Indy Monumental Marathon, which is 62 days away. You should join me. Indy Runners can help you with discounts and training, and motivation also. Because the motivation part is important. Sorry, Shirley MacLaine, but I think this is the life you get. Live it! My parents never jogged, but they had a great run.

I enjoyed your post Mr. P. I too have missed about three weeks of running/working out since my Mom was burglarized and attacked. Finally getting my life back on track with my first workout today. It was very slow going and I needed some inspiration. Nice post. Good luck with the race! See you on FB.
Talk about timing! Thanks very much.
